Fallen Amal Network Graduate, Capt. Yonatan (Johnny) Keren, Laid to Rest
The Amal Educational Network is deeply grieving the loss of Capt. Yonatan (Johnny) Keren, 22, a graduate of Amal’s Emek Harod High School. Johnny, a soldier in the elite multi-dimensional “Ghost” unit, fell in combat in Gaza on October 29, along with three of his comrades. This tragic event marks Johnny as the 44th Amal student lost in Israel’s defense, a solemn number in a network of 50 schools that span 24 towns and cities across Israel.
Hundreds gathered at Johnny’s funeral to honor his memory, remembering him as a spirited and committed young man. Johnny, known for his kindness, joy, and dedication to Israel’s values, was remembered by family and friends for his love of the land and strong sense of mission. Having served his community in his youth and completed a year of national service at Kishorit, Johnny was drawn to a life of meaning and duty. He recently completed an officer’s course, fulfilling his aspiration to lead a team of soldiers in his unit.
The Amal Network joins Emek Harod highschool principal, Lilach Stein, in mourning alongside her entire community of Emek Harod and the village of Moledet, where Johnny was raised. In a message from the network, Karen Tal, the Director General, expressed her deep sorrow for Johnny’s passing and the profound loss felt by all 44 Amal families. The Amal Network extends heartfelt condolences to Johnny’s family and its entire community during this difficult time. .
