This initiative involves creating a joint learning and creative community of coordinators from various groups and localities. Implementation with students can be done separately or together between schools, offering a wide range of possibilities.
One interesting option is to create new and structured avenues for implementing civic education through including the subject in the matriculation certificate. This involves identifying relevant bodies and activities and engaging with them under the coordinators’ guidance. This community approach, involving several coordinators working together and focusing network-wide efforts on developing the field in multiple schools simultaneously, has its advantages.
Another potential implementation is ongoing work from the second half of the project with representatives of the school student councils led by the coordinators, promoting education for democratic citizenship and practicing various skills and activities within their roles as student councils.
It’s important to remember that education for citizenship and democracy is inherently a profound process that requires consistent and practical efforts to achieve results. It necessitates imparting knowledge, providing opportunities for practice and experience, and developing skills and competencies. These endeavor offers training and support for a community who is often hesitant to engage with these subjects due to a lack of knowledge, skills, or fear of addressing controversial issues at the heart of Israeli society, and and this is why it is imperative to bring to fruition.
