A Journey of Connection, Learning, and Curiosity – in Tanzania!

Students from the Amal Dekel Vilnai Middle School recently returned from a remarkable educational and cultural mission to Tanzania. The journey included a visit to a local school, open conversations with Tanzanian teens, shared dancing, laughter, and a deep mutual curiosity that transcended language and geography. Meeting a different culture and creating authentic human connections are central pillars of Amal Educational Network’s vision for education, one that champions openness, communication, and the ability to learn beyond the classroom walls.

Tanzania, located in East Africa, is known for its rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and warm, welcoming communities. Yet life in many rural areas is shaped by limited infrastructure and basic resources—creating profound opportunities for meaningful educational exchange and perspective-building.  Upon returning home, some students shared their experiences: “We stayed in villages without mobile phones, because there simply aren’t any there,” shared Galia Gurevich. “It was just people connecting with people, and surprisingly, I didn’t miss my phone at all. I realized how dependent I usually am on it—and how freeing it is not to be.”

“It was fascinating,” said Hili Ben Hamo. “The culture, the way of life—it’s so different. What surprised me most was how they manage their water use. They don’t have running water like we do in Israel. I came back with a real sense of perspective. We have a very good life here.” We are deeply grateful to the teaching staff and everyone who made this transformative journey possible.

With 50 schools across Israel, Amal Educational Network is committed to expanding this life-changing experience to more students regardless of their financial background, through a special scholarship fund. If you believe in giving every young person the chance to broaden their horizons and build real bridges across cultures, we invite you to join this initiative by contacting Yael Nathanel at: yaelna@amalnet.k12.il.
