Amal Schools Lead the Way in Educating Students on Workers’ Rights

As part of its commitment to instilling civic education and empowering students as active citizens, the Amal Educational Network has launched a new educational initiative focusing on workers’ rights, with a special emphasis on the rights of teen workers in Israel. The initiative was developed in collaboration with the Histadrut, Israel’s labor federation, and the Lavon Institute for Labour Movement Research, with the goal of making students more aware of their legal rights and responsibilities in the workplace.

The comprehensive guidebook, presented to Amal school principals by Batya Katz, Head of Amal’s Pedagogical Department, provides teachers with a structured lesson plan that explores key labor rights issues. The activity is designed for 10th-grade students, though it is also suitable for 11th and 12th graders who have not yet been introduced to these fundamental rights. The educational program includes an engaging TikTok-style video to introduce the topic and spark discussion, an interactive classroom activity covering workers’ rights globally and in Israel, including common labor rights violations and real-life dilemmas, a VR experience on the history and role of the Histadrut in shaping workers’ rights in Israel, a poster competition using AI tools, encouraging students to creatively express their understanding of labor rights, a guest lectures from representatives of the Working and Studying Youth Movement, offering students a firsthand perspective on the importance of protecting their rights in the workplace.

“This initiative is an important step in ensuring that students understand their rights as workers and as active members of society,” said Batya Katz. “By educating young people on fair employment conditions and social justice, we are empowering them to advocate for themselves and contribute to a more just and equal workforce in Israel.”

The activity aligns with Amal’s broader vision as a state-democratic educational network, committed to social mobility, civic engagement, and reducing economic disparities. School principals and teachers are encouraged to implement the program and share feedback to further enhance its impact. For more information, teachers can coordinate guest lectures through Noa Katanov, and schools are invited to submit student work for the national poster competition.

Together, we are shaping a future where every student knows their rights and is prepared to take an active role in Israeli society.
