International Holocaust Remembrance Day: The Threat of Digital Antisemitism and Amal’s Educational Response

This year, when we mark the 80th anniversary to the liberation of Auschwitz, the German death camp, by Soviet troops, has unfortunately seen the most severe assaults on Jews since the Holocaust. Western Jewish communities are again living in fear as antisemitic rhetoric and physical threats escalate worldwide, reminiscent of one of the darkest periods in Jewish history. Disinformation and hate speech on social media have spilled into real-world violence, reviving dangerous propaganda tactics reminiscent of the Nazi era.

The emergence of “digital antisemitism” is driven by inadequate enforcement policies on social media platforms. These systems amplify antisemitic content through recommendation algorithms, echo chambers, and targeted content delivery. Additionally, artificial intelligence and data-driven technologies are being misused to foster algorithmic discrimination and data-based persecution, from online profiling to targeted exclusion of Jewish individuals.

In response to these unprecedented challenges, the Amal Educational Network recognizes the critical need to equip students with the tools to understand and navigate this complex reality. As part of its transformation into a state-democratic educational network, Amal has launched new pedagogical programs focusing on the four technological revolutions of our time: the information revolution, surveillance technology, human-machine integration, and cybersecurity.

By integrating AI-based learning and experiential teaching methods, Amal aims to prepare the next generation to critically analyze media, combat digital disinformation, and understand the ethical dimensions of technology. This approach ensures that students not only remember the lessons of the Holocaust but also develop the skills and values needed to protect democracy and foster a more inclusive society.
