Thousands of Jews and Arabs Protested Together Against Violance
Last night, tens of thousands of citizens, Arab and Jewish alike, gathered in Tel Aviv in a rare and powerful joint protest against the ongoing wave of violence and crime in Arab communities across Israel. Marchers carried photographs of victims and walked silently from the Tel Aviv Museum of Art to Habima Square, demanding decisive action from the authorities to restore personal security and the basic right to live without fear. The protest reflected a growing sense that violence has become a daily reality, exacting an unbearable human cost on families, communities, and young people.
For the Amal Educational Network, this protest resonated deeply and painfully. Over the past year alone, Amal has lost three students and alumni to acts of terror and criminal violence. As a network that includes 10 Arab schools, 7 Bedouin schools, and 2 Druze schools, Amal works at the very heart of communities most affected by this crisis. Educators and school leaders from these communities participated in the demonstration, emphasizing that violence does not remain outside the school gates, rather shapes students’ lives, limits their sense of safety, and threatens their future.
Amal believes that education must be part of the solution
, alongside urgent and effective government action. Beyond demanding that authorities do far more to combat crime and protect citizens, Amal is committed to strengthening resilience, civic responsibility, and shared society through education. By empowering young people with civic values, skills, and hope, Amal works every day to counter despair and fear with opportunity and purpose. With the continued support of friends and partners overseas, Amal remains steadfast in its mission to help build a safer, more just future for all of Israel’s communities.
