Amal mourns Meir Shimon Amar z”l – A Graduate of Amal Lady Davis School in Jerusalem
We are deeply saddened to share the heartbreaking news of the death of Meir Shimon Amar z”l, a graduate of the Amal Lady Davis School in Jerusalem, who fell in battle together with 4 other fellow soldiers during a military operation in Gaza. Meir was only 20 years old. Noam Masgadian who also fell in the same battle is the brother of a 12th grade student at Amal school of Bnot Zion in Jerusalem. Amal mourns both soldiers whose courage and commitment to Israel protects us all.
A remarkable young man, Meir served at the Nezah Yehuda platoon. He came from an ultra-Orthodox background and made the brave and independent choice to enlist in the Israel Defense Forces after October 7th, out of a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to help defend his country. He was killed while participating in an operation to clear the area from Hamas terrorists, serving with courage and dignity until his final moments.
Mair z”l studied at Amal Lady Davis School, one of the network’s 50 schools, which serves students from disadvantaged backgrounds and offers a deeply personal, family-like educational environment. The school, under the leadership of Principal Raphael Alfassi, helps students overcome previous academic failure and discover their unique strengths through small-group learning and individual attention. Meir’s path from challenge to purpose reflects the school’s mission to believe in every student, even when they no longer believe in themselves. His choice to serve in the IDF despite communal opposition, and his ultimate sacrifice, remind us of the power of education to shape conscience, courage, and commitment.
Mair is one of IDF’s 888 fallen soldoers since October 7th 2023 that marks the start of the war. Our entire Amal community mourns Meir’s loss with his family, friends, teachers, and fellow soldiers. We will honor his memory by continuing to educate future generations with the same values that guided him: responsibility, resilience, and a deep love for his country. May his memory be a blessing.
