Amal Announces Adv. Tamar Peled Amir as New Head of Education, Research and Technology
The Amal Educational Network is proud to announce the appointment of Adv. Tamar Peled Amir as its new Head of Education, Research and Technology. Tamar already serves as Deputy to Karen Tal, Director General. Both Ms. Tal and Adv. Peled Amir began their influential journeys with Amal two years ago and have since forged a powerful partnership, leading bold educational initiatives during some of the most challenging times in Israel’s history. Together, these two visionary leaders have embarked on a groundbreaking mission: to establish Amal as Israel’s first State Democratic Highschool Network.
Amal, one of Israel’s largest and most established education networks, is currently home to approximately 30,000 students attending 50 schools across 24 towns and communities – an authentic mosaic, representing the full spectrum of Israeli society: Jews and Arabs, Druze and Bedouin, religious, traditional, and secular students all learn together.
Amal’s leadership recognizes its unique responsibility: to cultivate an inclusive educational culture that is firmly grounded in democratic values. Its vision ensures that every member of the Amal community: students, teachers, and school leaders alike, understands not only their rights, but also their obligations as citizens in a democratic state.
Under the stewardship of Karen Tal and Tamar Peled Amir, Amal has launched a comprehensive strategy to weave democratic values into every aspect of school life. As Peled Amir explains: “Our mission is not only to ask what sort of people our students will become, but what kind of citizens they will be. Democratic education should not be confined to civics or social studies lessons, it must inform the entire school culture.” This vision is grounded in Amal’s founding values: love of humanity, equality, freedom, and social justice – inspired and guided by Israel’s Declaration of Independence and the official State Education Law. Through their pioneering efforts, Ms. Tal and Adv. Peled Amir have empowered principals and educational leaders to act proactively and with the full support of the network, fostering safe, open dialogue among the staff that mirrors the complexity and diversity of Israeli society.

Amal’s holistic model of action is realized through seven fields of school life: from the classroom curriculum to teacher training, from community partnerships to technological innovation. A practical, hands-on approach ensures that democratic practice is not just idealistic, but becomes an integral part of daily reality for staff and students alike. In a period marked by security challenges, polarization, and fundamental questions about democracy’s future, Amal Educational Network stands at the forefront of a national movement—demonstrating daily that Israeli society’s greatest strength lies in its ability to foster shared identity, open dialogue, and mutual responsibility.
The Board, donors, and friends of Amal worldwide are invited to support and celebrate this courageous initiative. We warmly welcome Adv. Tamar Peled Amir to her new leadership role, and look forward to continuing the journey towards a more inclusive, democratic, and resilient Israeli society.
