Amal Executive Team Visits Ahed School for Excellence in Sciences, Hura

The Amal Educational Network leadership held an inspiring visit this week at the Ahed School for Excellence in Sciences in Hura, a groundbreaking educational institution serving the Negev Bedouin community.

The story of the Ahed School is remarkable: it began in 2006, when a group of visionaries recognized an urgent need: too many Bedouin children with dreams of higher education were forced to leave home at a very young age in order to pursue quality schooling outside their whereabouts across the Negev. To change this reality, the nonprofit Ahed Association, led by Prof. Jihad El-Sana, Professor of Computer Science at Ben Gurion University of the Negev , established the school after two years of dedicated efforts. Today, Ahed serves over 500 students, with most graduates continuing on to academic studies.

The Amal delegation was deeply impressed by the school’s unique spirit. Members met Principal Salah Abu Rasheed, together with dedicated staff and the Ahed Association’s board, including Prof. El-Sana, Dr. Abd El-Karim Abu Aa’fash, Prof. Muhammad Al-Atauna, Dr. Qasem Al-Srayea, Dr. Yousef Al-Amour, Mr. Amin Abu Sbeih, and Dr. Khalil Abu Ghanem.

The visit highlighted Ahed’s culture of academic excellence and social commitment. Staff proudly shared stories of achievements, from students completing advanced levels in mathematics to innovative initiatives that were born within the school, such as internal efficiency systems and extracurricular programs run by volunteer teachers. Alongside educational excellence, the school also emphasizes social values, teamwork, and leadership.

During the visit, Amal Southern Region Director Galia Miron warmly addressed Principal Abu Rasheed: “You have the spirit of a true leader. In your quiet way, you guide and inspire—and the results speak for themselves.”

For Amal, the connection with Ahed represents more than a school partnership; it is a shared vision and joint mission. The Bedouin community’s aspirations for its children—to access the highest levels of education, to dream and achieve—align seamlessly with Amal’s mission of nurturing opportunity, excellence, and equality in education.

This renewed strategic vision and shared commitment reaffirm Amal’s determination to support Ahed and similar institutions in leading Bedouin students to the very top. The visit left the team with a strong sense of pride and hope, showing how true collaboration between families, teachers, students, and partners can turn dreams into impactful achievements.
