A Shared Society Tribute in Amal Ramla in Memory of Yamam Officer and Graduate
In the heart of Ramla, Amal Alef – Yigal Alon High School stands as a rare and hopeful educational model. Here, Jewish and Muslim students from diverse communities study side by side. Free from the animosity that often dominates public discourse, these young people focus instead on shared values, everyday challenges, and building a better future together. For many friends of Amal and supporters of Israel, this school is more than just a place of learning—it’s a symbol of what’s possible in Israel’s fragile social fabric.
In this special place, a unique project is underway—one that blends remembrance with hope, legacy with action. The school is raising funds to build a new sports and fitness facility in memory of one of its most exceptional graduates, Moshe-el Shlomo z”l. Moshe-el studied at Amal A’ Yigal Alon from 2006 to 2009, where he was known for his athletic talent, especially in competitive sports. Driven by a profound sense of duty, he enlisted in the elite Paratroopers Brigade and later joined Israel’s most prestigious counterterrorism unit, the Yamam. He served with distinction in hundreds of complex operations and was decorated for his courage.
On October 7, 2023—Simchat Torah—when Hamas launched its devastating surprise attack, Moshe-el didn’t hesitate. He rushed south to defend Israel and fell in battle at the Sha’ar HaNegev junction alongside his comrades Dror Elton and Bar Sivan. He was just 32 years old.
To honor his memory, school principal Barak Friedman and physical education teacher Dotan Rothstein launched a campaign to establish a sports center in his name. The planned facility will feature a fitness lawn and equipment to serve students during the school day and local youth in the afternoons. It will offer IDF preparation sessions, promote teamwork, physical fitness, and resilience, and keep Moshe-el’s spirit of service and excellence alive in every corner of Ramla.
The crowdfunding campaign is ongoing and has not yet reached its target. But hope and determination remain strong. Last week, a generous Amal friend from New York visited the school, toured its grounds, met with students and staff, and expressed his admiration from the commitment of the school staff towards their community. Amal’s friends around the world are mobilizing to help bring this vision to life. Every contribution brings us one step closer to building not just a sports center, but a living tribute to a hero—and a shared investment in a resilient, united Israeli society.
