Amal Welcomes Ceasefire and the Return of Hostages
Amal Educational Network extends its congratulations on the safe return of three hostages as part of the first stage of the recently announced ceasefire agreement. The return of Romi Gonen (24), Doron Steinbrecher (31), and Emily Damari (28) has brought immense relief and joy to their families and the entire nation. Following their release, they were met by IDF and transported to Sheba Medical Center, where officials confirmed their condition as stable. These brave young women who endured 15 months in captivity are the first of 33 hostages listed for release during the initial phase of this complex humanitarian agreement, which also includes the
release of 90 Palestinian prisoners by Israel. The scene of IDF vehicles crossing the border to Israel with the hostages was a powerful symbol of hope amidst ongoing uncertainty.
The Amal Educational Network is particularly invested in this process as it deeply touches our community. Among the hostages abducted on October 7, 2023, two are Amal alumni: Almog Meir Jan (24), who was successfully rescued in a military operation, and Matan Zangauker (25), who remains in captivity and we sincerely hope he will be released in the second phase of the deal. Our thoughts remain with Matan and his family as we will do our utmost to ensure his safe return.
The Amal Educational Network believes in a future where peace and education pave the way for harmony in our region. Until that day arrives, we stand united in hope and solidarity with all hostages and their families.
