Karen Tal Joins Jewish Educators Delegation to Strengthen Identity through Education
Karen Tal, Director General of the Amal Educational Network and one of Israel’s most renowned educators, recently participated in a global Jewish educators’ delegation hosted in Israel. This annual gathering brought together Jewish educational leaders from around the world to exchange ideas, share innovative practices, and explore transformative strategies for strengthening Jewish-Zionist education.
The event, inspired by former UK Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks’ words, “Leadership at its best is education,” served as a platform to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing Jewish communities today. Discussions centered on building bridges between Israel and the Jewish Diaspora, modernizing educational approaches, and deepening students’ connection to Israel. Together, the delegates sought to foster a sense of shared responsibility for Israel’s future while addressing the changing role of Jewish schools in shaping identity and pride in a post-October 7th world.
Reflecting on the gathering, Karen shared, “A year after October 7th, we are confronted with profound questions about our Jewish identity, the intricate relationship between Israel and Jews worldwide, and the urgent need to build bridges of hope and resilience. More than ever, education is the lever for the change we seek to achieve.”
Since being appointed Director General of Amal two years ago, Karen has been leading its transformation into Israel’s first State Democratic Educational Network. At the heart of this lies the challenge of identity—personal, communal, national, and Jewish. Karen’s vision includes creating more opportunities for Amal students and educators to connect with Jewish peers and leaders from around the globe, cultivating a generation that understands its role in shaping a shared and hopeful future.
Karen’s participation underscores the Amal Educational Network’s commitment to fostering meaningful connections and advancing the role of education in shaping the future of Jewish society in Israel and beyond.
