Karen Tal to Raise a Toast at the 20th Anniversary of the Charles Bronfman Prize in New York
Next week, Karen Tal, Director General of the Amal Educational Network and 2011 Charles Bronfman Prize laureate, will deliver a special toast at the closing event of a week-full of events marking the 20th anniversary of the Charles Bronfman Prize Foundation. Invited as a distinguished laureate, Karen will reflect on her achievements in education, emphasizing her most important work to date as the head of Amal community of 100,000 people: educators, students and parents.
The Charles Bronfman Prize Foundation has invited all 20 laureates to this milestone celebration, each a trailblazer in their own right. In her toast, Karen will discuss the transformation of the Amal Educational Network, one of Israel’s most senior and familiar educational providers, into Israel’s first state-democratic educational network, a project focused on embedding civil knowledge, values and skills, and striving for actions that would bring all diverse groups in Israeli society, represented in the Amal community, to form a shared community of informed, engaged and pro-active citizens.
Karen will highlight the critical role of educators, who she considers as community leaders, in their inspiring roles preparing students for the challenges of our times, especially in the face of rising populism, fake news, and widening social gaps. Her vision is clear: “We must strive for education that empowers and unites according to our shared values,” Karen will state, as she shares her hope for Amal’s role in driving this transformation and contributing to the rebuilding of Israeli society.
