Marking 600 Days Since October 7: Amal Schools Across Israel Stand in Solidarity

Yesterday, Amal schools across the country paused to mark 600 days since the Hamas terror attack of October 7, 2023, and the beginning of the ongoing war that has shaken Israeli society to its core. It has also been 600 days of waiting—for 251 families whose loved ones were taken hostage. Fifty-eight hostages remain in captivity, and their absence is a constant wound for all of us. Throughout the day, students and staff at Amal high schools held assemblies, moments of silence, and classroom discussions dedicated to the hostages and their families. In many schools, students wore yellow and created visual displays, poems, and letters expressing solidarity, hope, and a shared longing for the safe return of every hostage.

These activities, similar to this activity done in Amal Emek Harod school, were not only an expression of empathy—they were also a civic act. In choosing to mark this painful milestone, Amal educators continue to empower students to engage with the moral and democratic values at the heart of our society: solidarity, justice, responsibility, and the sanctity of life.

We remain committed to nurturing these values—especially in times of fear, division, and uncertainty. Together with our partners and supporters, we continue to educate for resilience, humanity, and the belief that even in darkness, the voices of young people can be a source of light and strength.
