Strengthening Community Ties: Amal’s New Initiative to Connect Schools with Local Leaders

In a powerful step forward for the Amal Educational Network, Director General Karen Tal has advanced her vision of deepening community engagement within Amal’s schools. This week, she visited two key institutions—Holtz High School in Tel Aviv and Ramot High School in Be’er Sheva—reinforcing the strong bonds between schools and their surrounding communities.

Holtz, known for its unique program integrating technical education with Israel Air Force cadet training, became the first Amal school to establish a dedicated “task force”—a group of local professionals and industry leaders committed to supporting the school. Inspired by this model, Karen expanded the initiative to Ramot in Be’er Sheva, forging an important partnership with senior officers from the nearby Hatzerim Airbase.  During her visit, Karen met with Brigadier General Amichai Levin, the base commander, who underscored the army’s commitment beyond security: “In these times, we must rebuild trust between the army and society, and the military has a duty to help strengthen our communities.”

This groundbreaking initiative is endorsed and led by Dr. Yossi Vardi, a pioneer of Israel’s high-tech industry, who has long championed connecting schools with professionals from various fields. With the country facing a severe shortage of teachers and educational resources, these partnerships provide students with invaluable mentorship while instilling a shared sense of responsibility in local leaders. The response from students has been remarkable. As they shared their passions and aspirations, a common theme emerged—giving back to the community. Amal’s initiative is proving that when schools, professionals, and local institutions join forces, education is transformed into a collective mission, shaping a stronger, more resilient society.

Stay tuned as Amal continues to build bridges between education and community, ensuring the success of its 30,000 students from all sectors of Israeli society
